Graphic elements in the upper corners include farm implements, tools, and equipment, including shovels, pitchforks, sickles, rakes, and a grinding implement. Also includes a vignette depicting the state seal. Flowers, produce, and vinery border the graphics and surround the text of the certificate. The Pennsylvania State Agricultural Society was founded in 1851 by representatives from 50 counties with the object to "foster and improve agriculture, horticulture, and the domestic and household arts." The first annual exhibition of the society was held the same year.
