Chrysler-Plymouth - Induction Hardened Exhaust Valve Seats
Automobile Reference Domestic Cars, Makes A-ZItem Info
Source: Automobile Reference Collection
Notes:
Induction hardened exhaust valve seats, introduced last year on six-cylinder engines to allow satisfactory operation on lead-free fuel, is extended to all 1973 Chrysler-Plymouth engines. During engine production, the exhaust valve seats in the cylinder heads are heated by induction coils to a temperature of 1700 degrees F and then allowed to air cool. This process hardens the seats to a depth of 0.05 to 0.08 inch, giving them greater resistance to wear.
