Newstead Abbey, best known as the former home of the poet Lord Byron, was originally an Augustinian priory founded by Henry II in about 1170. In 1540, Henry VIII granted Newstead to the Byron family who converted it into their family home.  (http://www.newsteadabbey.org.uk/)
