"Gaskill Street is just within the limits of Society Hill on the southern boundary. The well-dressed gentlemen on the sidewalk and the substantial houses on either side of the pawn shop suggest the affluence customarily associated with this area."--OPEP, p. 52.
Money lender on the corner. Men in suits and top hats and boy standing in front. Residential houses surround the shop. Many signs are mounted on the storefront and building: "Money lent on goods"; "Jones & Co's old established money loan office" ; "Loan office. Money 516 loaned" ; "Money advanced on goods" ; Jones & Co's old established money loan office. Money loaned [on] personal property of every description." ; "Money loaned on watches, diamonds, jewelry, plate, clothing, &c."
