Notes: "This famed department store was founded in 1868, the first of three large firms to be established in this area. It extended progressively along Market Street almost to 9th, and on 8th Street to Filbert. The pure Victorian facades shown here were remodeled in the 1920s to a modern design. The many flags out are possibly for the Peace Jubilee of October 1898."--OPEP, p. 87.
