Notes: "In the foreground of this view toward the north on Broad Street is the Academy of the Natural Sciences, and next to it, with its ornamental eagle, is the La Pierre House, celebrated as America's most luxurious hotel. Behind the fence at the extreme left, the Union League is under construction. The spire in the distance is that of the First Baptist Church just north of Penn Square."--OPEP, p. 171.
