Notes: "Designed by Thomas U. Walter and completed in 1847, this imposing building originally housed the administrative offices of Stephen Girard's famous college for orphans. From its position on a hill northwest of Penn Square it commands a sweeping view eastward to the waterfront. The photograph won an award from the Photographic Society of Philadelphia."--OPEP, p. 194.
