Notes: This manuscript contains books 5-8 of Revelations by St. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373), who began a life devoted to religion after the death of her husband in 1344. She became renowned as a mystic after receiving a series of visions, which she believed to have come to her directly from Christ. She recorded these revelations, which were soon disseminated throughout Europe.

The manuscript shown here is unfinished. The large initials were never filled in, and one can still see the small guide letters that the scribe included in order to tell the artist what letter to place in the blank space.
