Notes:

The roads over the summit of Lynville Mountain were so bad that Freeman Monroe, driver of the car, had to put tire chains on all four wheels. This was the greatest elevation on the route. This picture was taken out of Roanoke, Virginia, on the way to Martinsville, Va., -- the worst stretch of road covered by the 1911 Glidden Tourists. The Chalmers Six is one of the few cars that made the entire journey, through fords and over bad roads, entirely under its own power.
