My Dear Sir
Many thanks for Mr. Piper's letter. Will you kindly charge yourself with the enclosed for him? Also with the other enclosed for Mrs. Tagart?
Dr. Dewey sent me his pamphlet, which, in the exercise of a stern resolve, I immediately put in the fire, without glancing at, beyond the title page. When I determined to tell the Truth about America, I determined also that I would not, from that time, read any American Paper, Pamphlet, Book, or Review, in which I had reason to suppose (from the very fact of its being sent to me) there might be the slightest allusion to myself.
I do not mean to say that it requires a Roman fortitude to exercise this Self-Denial. But I have beaten, by these means, every free and independent Citizen who has written to annoy me (judging from the number of packets I return to the Post Office unopened, I should think their name is Legion); and I do not think I am less wise or less honest, and I know I am more good-tempered, in consequence.
  Always My Dear Sir
    Faithfully Yours
 Charles Dickens
The Reverend Edward Tagart
 P.S.
We are rejoiced to hear that your daughter is so much better, and heartily unite in best Regards.
