                                               OFFICE OF HOUSEHOLD WORDS
Tuesday Thirteenth October 1857.

My Dear Buckstone.
No. I do not believe that you have “made out of the matter a mere managerial bargain”’ and I do not believe that you have done any thing in it but oblige me very readily. For which accept my cordial thanks.
I need hardly tell you that my interest in the young lady does not cease with the effecting of this arrangement, and that I shall always regard your taking care of her and remembering her, as an act of personal friendship to me. On the termination of her present engagement, I hope you will tell me, before you tell her, what you see for her, “looming in the future.”
I enclose a cheque (which I have not crossed) for Fifty Pounds.
As you are so far as Shooter’s Hill on the way to Gad’s Hill; I wish you would come from your hill to my hill, and have Sunday dinner. I would meet you at Dartford, and bring you on in a basket-carriage; and I would keep you (with your leave) all night, and send you anywhere in the morning.
Could it be done, - on Sunday Week for instance?
                                                                              Faithfully Yours always
