   Boulogne, Sunday August Tenth 1856
Dear Wills
I am heartily glad you have let your house, and cordially congratulate you thereupon.  It is even worth a slight inroad upon your holiday.
Ansell’s bill that you write about, I gave John a cheque to pay, full a week ago.  I am vexed that the poor man has had to ask for it.  Will you ascertain from John that it is not still unpaid; and tell him whenever he has money to pay, to pay it immediately?
Enclosed is a paper by Townshend – not brilliant, but good enough.  As I have rejected innumerable articles of his, I want it to go into the next No. you make up.  It will do very well for the last article in the No.
As I am writing, I give you on the other side, an order, dated next Wednesday, for my book at Coutt’s.  If John gets it on Wednesday afternoon and takes it on Thursday to Collins (who is coming on Friday), he will bring it, and any thing else you may have to send.
                                      Ever Faithfully

  I have the Pirate-parcel, safe.
In last Wednesday’s Times there is a very remarkable letter from the Colliers in the Pit where the last great accident was, stating their case, and making out with every appearance of truth that they “struck”, to save their poor lives.  Watch the case.  If they be not very decidedly disproved in their assertions, then it is a case to go into, and on which to communicate with their attorney and represent their grievance (when the enquiry shall be concluded), in a history of the whole matter.  The same paper contains a fearful accident at Sheffield from unfenced machinery.
