Leeds Friday First February 1867
My Dear Landseer
I am reading in this disagreeable place, and am on the wing for Manchester tomorrow morning, and from there to all sorts of places in all points of the compass; but I cannot help sending you this hearty note to congratulate you on the completion of your Lions, and to assure you of the immense satisfaction with which I have read the description of them in the Times today. I am proud of every word of that animated praise; and entrust the post office with the enclosed cordial shake of the hand, and clap on the back, of my masterly old friend, with real delight.
So no more at present from
  Yours affectionately
  Charles Dickens
