Notes: This leaf and four others in the Free Library's collections (Lewis E M 18:1-3a) were likely intended for insertion in the same book of hours. Although there is no text on these leaves to confirm this destination, illuminators often painted full-page miniatures on blank parchment that would then be inserted into these popular devotional books. Christ carrying the Cross, for example, commonly prefaced Sext of the Hours of the Virgin or the Hours of the Cross.
