A  naval battle on the Mississippi River between the Union Navy under the command of David G. Farragut and Fort St. Phillip (seen on the right edge) Confederate gunboats were mainly inefectual in preventing the bombardment of the fort.  Part of the Union's campaign to capture New Orleans which lies a few miles upstream.
