My dear Cruikshank
I am afraid you consider me desperately devoid of all breeding /except bad/in never having called or written to congratulate you on your marriage.  I should have done the former accompanied by my wife but for the death of her brother on his voyage home from the East Indies which [sad]event has caused her & all her family much grief
