Automobile engines- Fluid drive

Chrysler's Fluid Drive

-is similar to two halves of a metallic grapefruit, from which the fruit has been removed by spoon without damage to the sectional membrane (A). One half is attached to the engine crankshaft where the flywheel formerly was found (B). The second half, sealed within the first, is attached to the main drive shaft of the transmission. When the engine is idling the enclosed fluid is churned lazily about by the driving vanes. When the engine throttle is opened fluid is whirled smoothly by centrifugal force to the second half which is forced into motion by sheer mass of the engine driven fluid (C). "Miracle of engineering" is the liquid-tight, gas-tight seal which resists heat and pressure and yet which resolves without frictional drag. Chryslers so equipped may creep smoothly at 1/2 mile an hour or rush silkily to top speed.
