Chrysler-Plymouth Division's new 400-cubic-inch-displacement engine for 1972 is equipped with an air injection system on California models to reduce carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons to required levels. The 400-CID engine is available in either the two-barrel version with a Holly Carburetor and single exhaust, or the four-barrel version (shown here) with a Thermo-Quad carburetor and dual exhaust. The air injection system allows the use of richer fuel-air mixtures, which helps maintain driveability.
