 Baskerville came late to printing after he made a fortune as a japanner of furniture. His masterpiece was his Bible. 

The clean type face was controversial in his time. The type has thin strokes that were unfamiliar to those who used the heavy Caslon. He used special wove paper with a calendered finish to hold the fine type weights.
