Initial P with St. Paul, beginning of the Epistles
This manuscript has been dated to ca. 1480-1490.
This page begins the Pauline Epistles, thirteen letters traditionally attributed to the Apostle Paul. St. Paul can be identified by the sword he holds as an attribute. The initial was illuminated by a follower of an anonymous master known as the Master of Edward IV, so named because he illuminated two volumes of a French translation of the Bible for the King of England, Edward IV.
