When the first diesel-motored racing car to establish a non-stop world record was taken for a tour of European racing centers, it attracted the attention of European leaders in the automotive world. In the photograph, taken at the Longchamps race course in Paris, Andre Citroen, builder of the French Citroen car and known as the “Henry Ford of Europe”, is seated at the left. At the wheel is William Irwin, principal owner of the American company which developed the type of Diesel motor used in the car―the only car ever to have completed the 500-mile Memorial Day race on the Indianapolis Speedway without a single stop.
