Truck drivers protest state weight law. Heavy freight trucks line both sides of the Pennsylvania Turnpike for several miles near Carlisle, Pa., as more than a thousand drivers staged a unique version of the sit-down strike in protest against the state law fixing maximum weight of 45,000 pounds for both truck and load. They claim that some of the trucks alone weigh 25,000 pounds, and contend that a 100,000-pound limit is necessary for “payload”.
