Biographical Note:
Jacob Anthony, a miller, was born in Weisenburg Township, Lehigh County  in 1792, and died in April 1875. He was raised on his family’s farm, and learned the milling business as a boy. Upon coming to Forge Dale in Berks County in 1831, he bought a grist mill for $600 from its owner Christian Steltz, and successfully operated the mill up to his death. He must have been a man of exemplary character for his neighbors called him “Honest Jacob.”

Scope and Content:
The Jacob Anthony Grist Mill Ledger is folio size in oblong format. It contains a ledger of grist mill customers from ca. 1842 to ca. 1868. Jacob Anthony also made entries from time to time relating to other business transactions such as renting his house on May 28, 1855 for a year to Wiliam Betman [p.277]. Tipped-in inserts refer to both a saw mill, and an oil mill that were also operated by Anthony.
