Notes:

Andrew Jackson, one of our most controversial presidents, battles the political Hydra. At the beginning of his first term as President, in 1829, he faced scandal and infighting in his administration. He filled his administration with his followers which was met with great disapproval. One of his new appointees, Secretary of War, John Eaton, created one of the first scandals when he married a divorcee. The papers had a field day with all the activity in Washington.

The heads of the hydra represent the obstacles he faced; Deposits, U.S. Bank, Bribery, Pensions, and Corruption. The heroes in the story are; Andrew Jackson, the character with the spectacles, Major Jack Downing, a fictitious character created by Seba Smith, a newspaperman, and Uncle Jack, believed to be John Q. Adams.
