"The Vauxhall Theatre [...] established in 1814. The establishment occupied the whole block bounded by Walnut, George [Sansom], Juniper, and Broad Streets, which was the property of Capt. Vauxhall Garden was a favorite place for the display of fire-works and for baloon ascensions." (Vol. 2, p. 958)
