Notes:
This is a 1962 close-up exterior view of the entrance to the newly-opened Columbia Avenue Branch. It features a large ceramic tile mosaic in the vestibule, called "Integration of Science and Art," by artist Edna Andrade. It was commissioned as part of the 1% For Art initiative for public buildings.
In 1987, both the avenue and the branch were renamed, in honor of civil rights activist and civic leader Cecil B. Moore, a lawyer, a civil rights activist, a president of the local NAACP, and a member of Philadelphia's City Council, who died in 1979.
The Cecil B. Moore Branch serves North Central Philadelphia, Strawberry Mansion, Brewerytown, Sharswood, and the Johnson Homes.
