This is an interior view of the adult reading room, in the newly-opened Columbia Avenue Branch, in 1962.  This branch replaced the Wagner Institute Branch (which still exists at 17th & Montgomery as a science and natural history museum).

Originally called the Columbia Avenue Branch, both the avenue and the library were renamed in 1987, in honor of Cecil Bassett Moore. He was a lawyer, a civil rights activist who led the fight to integrate Girard College, president of the local NAACP, and a member of Philadelphia's City Council.

This branch serves North Central Philadelphia, Strawberry Mansion, Brewerytown, Sharswood, and the Johnson Homes.
