The First Dodge-1914
The original Dodge touring car was the first car of any sort in the industry with an all-steel body – the forerunner of the industry’s first all steel closed car brought out subsequently by Dodge. Wheelbase, 116”; L-head engine, 30-35 horsepower; displacement, 212.3 cubic inches, bore, 3-⅞”; stroke, 4-½; top speed, 60-63 miles per hour. These early Dodge cars had a 12 volt battery for the starter and lights. The engine ran off the magneto. The first Dodge was pronounced ready for the market Noveember 14, 1914 and in what remained of that first year Dodge produced 249 cars. In 1915, Dodge production skyrocketed to 45,033. The 1,000,000th Dodge car was produced December 12, 1923.
