1961 DODGE POWER STEERING PUMP
The power steering pump on 1961 Dodge engines features a self-tightening drive which adjusts itself automatically to varying load conditions. The light (left) illustration shows the pump in the “no-load” condition. When steering effort is applied, the load causes the pump to rotate ina clockwise direction, increasing belt tension and preventing slipping. The result: less belt slippage and less noise at full, lock turn position. The new system provides a more uniform steering response under all driving conditions. Dodge News Photo #60-3485
