1965 Dodge Optional High-Performance V-8

For 1965 Dodge Dart buyers looking for a kind of acceleration and response usually associated with sports cars, a high-performance version of the 273-cubic-inch V-8 engine is offered as a factory-installed option. The engine is equipped with a single 4-barrel carburetor, shown here on a test engine; long duration camshaft, nonsilenced air cleaner, special intake manifold, and special pistons that boost the compression ratio to 10.5 to 1. For showroom appearance, the engine rocker covers are finished in black crackle paint and trimmed with extruded aluminum cooling fins. The air cleaner and caps for oil filler opening and crankcase ventilator are chrome-plated.
