The Girard Avenue Branch opened on December 16, 1968. This is a mid-1960s photograph of the proposed site for the new branch, on the corner of N. 6th Street and W. Girard Avenue.
The City Council renamed the branch on May 27, 1977, in memory of Ramonita de Rodriguez, a local Puerto Rican educator and community leader.
The branch serves the communities of Olde Kensington, Kensington South, Ludlow, Yorktown, East and West Poplar, Northern Liberties, and Girard/Poplar.
