The colophon at the end of the manuscript provides the information that this antiphonary was made at the Monastery of Belém in 1548 at the request of John III of Portugal, who gave the book as to the College of St. Jerome. Lewis E 221 and 222 both contain the same colophon and so must be part of a set of liturgical manuscripts that constituted the donation.
