The Girard Avenue Branch opened on December 16, 1968. This is the mid-1960s architect's rendering for the new Girard Avenue Branch, at the corner of 6th Street and Girard Avenue. The architectural firm was Francis, Cauffman, Wilkinson, and Pepper.
The City Council renamed the branch on May 27, 1977, in memory of Ramonita de Rodriguez, a local Puerto Rican educator and community leader.
The branch serves the communities of Olde Kensington, Kensington South, Ludlow, Yorktown, East and West Poplar, Northern Liberties, and Girard/Poplar.
