Notes: Erskine "The Little Aristocrat", South Bend, Ind. Named after president of Studebaker. The L-head motor of the Erskine Six develops 40 H.P. from bore and stroke of 2-5/8 x 4-1/2 inches. Piston displacement is 146.1 cu. in. Clutch and transmission are mounted in unit with motor. which ahs detachable cylinder. Note the clean cut design of the intake manifold, and the accessibility of the oil pump. The motor has silent chain front end drive, and water pump is operated by an extension of the fan shaft. The large pulley mounted on the front of the crankshaft acts as an extra flywheel, and is one of the factors contributing to the motor's smooth performance. The motor will accelerate from5 to 25 m.p.h. in 8 1/2 seconds, attain a top speed of 60 m.p.h. and climb a 11 per cent grade in high gear under full load. It returns 25 to 30 miles per gallon, and 1000 miles to a gallon of oil, which is constantly purified by an oil filter.
