Title: Erskine 1930 Gas Tank, Manifold Heater
Media Type:
Photographic Prints
Source: Automobile Reference Collection
Notes: Erskine "The Little Aristocrat", South Bend, Ind. Named after president of Studebaker. Top: Dynamic New Erskine Gas Tank. A part of the car which can be unsightly is given a smart touch by the embossed shield over the 14-gallon gasoline tank of the Dynamic New Erskine. For added convenience in filling, the filler mouth has been placed on the left side of the tank and is equipped with a one-turn cap. The rear traffic signal light combines stop light and tail light in one compact unit. Bottom: Dynamic New Erskine Manifold Heater. Scientific design of the intake manifold on the Dynamic New Erskine produces high turbulence in the incoming gas charge and results in faster response, more thorough combustion, greater economy, and lessened tendency to carbonize. With valve in the "on" position (as above) heat of the exhaust gasses from the first three cylinders is used to vaporize the cold incoming fuel mixture. Manifold heating is controlled for seasonal variations in temperature.
