Notes: Essex Motors, Detroit Mich. This is the car that set the remarkable new record of 4 days, 14 hours and 43 minutes on the first Transcontinental movement of United States mail by automobile. This car left the San Francisco post office at one minute after midnight, August 5 and landed in New York, via the Weehauken Ferry at 5:44 P.M. August 9, and delivered the mail at the New York Post Office at 5:52 P.M. This flashlight photograph was made during a brief night stop near Des Moines, Iowa.
