Notes:
The Knights Road Branch of the Free Library opened on September 24, 1969. Two months later, it was renamed the Katharine Drexel Branch, in honor of the Philadelphia heiress who, upon entering a religious life in 1891, founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, an order devoted to the education of African American and Native American children. This is a ca. 1967 photograph of the site selected for the new branch.
Located at Knights and Fairdale Roads, this branch serves the communities of Normandy, North and West Torresdale, Morrell Park, Millbrook, Parkwood, Crestmont Farms, Brookhaven, and Walton Park.
