The Knights Road Branch of the Free Library opened on September 24, 1969. It was renamed the Katharine Drexel Branch later that year, in honor of the Philadelphia heiress who founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, an order devoted to the education of African American and Native American children. She was named a saint of the Roman Catholic Church in 2000. This is an interior view of the circulation desk and reading areas, ca. 1973. |
