Source: Automobile Reference Collection
Notes: Evinrude Motors, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. FIRST ENCLOSED ENGINE COMPARTMENT – The first fully enclosed engine compartment and automotive type dashboard is one of five “firsts” claimed by Evinrude Motors for its line of Skeeter snowmobiles. The engine was enclosed as part of a new sound silencing system, the first in the industry. It utilizes dual mufflers and a baffle (lower left) to reduce noise levels by 50 percent. Instrumentation on the dashboard includes (clockwise from lower left): Reverse gear lever; lockout shift and compression release; control switch for hi and lo beam headlight; ignition for key-turn electric starting; warm-up (choke) know; and primer. A 4-gallon fuel tank is mounted at the base of the dashboard and incudes a gas gauge which tells the fuel level at a glance.
