Notes: FAIRCHILD EXPERIMENTAL SAFETY VEHICLE FOR THE U.S. DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION There are no seat belts in the Fairchild ESV. Instead, a highly-sophisticated passive restraint system protects all occupants in 50 mph front and rear crashes, as well as 40 mph side and 70 mph rollover crashes. The system consists of automatically-inflatable bags in the front and rear. Thick plastic foam padding in the doors and roof augment these bags, which are automatically activated in less than two-hundredths of a second by the bumper mechanism. The vehicle also features a low-emission 340 cubic inch Plymouth engine with automatic transmission as part of the power train package provided by the Chrysler Corp. for the Fairchild vehicle.
Creation Year: ca. 1972
