Notes: FAIRCHILD EXPERIMENTAL SAFETY VEHICLE FOR THE U.S. DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION A low-profile rear view periscope is featured in the new family sedan. The device contains an electrically defrosted objective lens which provides wide-angle rear vision in all kinds of weather. The front of vehicle is designed to withstand crashes into a fixed barrier at speeds up to 10 mph with no damage to the exterior. The hood of the car is hinged at the front for added safety. Extra resilient glass in the windshield and side windows, together with extensive interior padding, protect occupants during collisions from any angle. Another key feature is the vehicle’s front bumper which automatically extends 12 inches when the car’s speed exceeds 30 mph prevent occupant injury at rigid barrier crash speeds up to 50 mph.
