Notes: FAIRCHILD EXPERIMENTAL SAFETY VEHICLE FOR THE U.S. DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION The fully-assembled body structure of Fairchild’s experimental safety vehicle, prior to paint and trim, is depicted in this view. The vehicle’s fully-united body structure is representative of the reinforced skin stressed techniques derived from aerospace concepts. The thick doors, filled with energy-absorbing material and reinforced with rigid beams, are designed to withstand the effects of 40 mph side crashes. The double latch door systems and reinforced hinges, together with the high floor sill, prevent doors from buckling inward.
