Title: Fisher Body - 1961
Media Type: Photographic Prints
Source: Automobile Reference Collection
Notes: Fisher Body Division, General Motors, Detroit 2, Michigan. This is the integral body and frame being built by Fisher Body for Chevrolet’s compact Corvair. Heavy box-section structural members are integrated and welded to front, rear and underbody components to distribute strength and rigidity through the entire body. Integral construction with engine at the rear provides a spacious interior, easy entrance and exit, good seat height, low roof line with plenty of headroom for passengers and a virtually flat floor. The Corvair body and frame parts are all welded together with no bolts used whatsoever.
