Title: De Soto Automatic PowerFlite Transmission - 1954
Media Type: Photographic Prints
Source: Automobile Reference Collection
Notes: De Soto Division, Chrysler Corporation, Detroit, Michigan. Design simplicity in the De Soto Powerflite fully-automatic transmission means high performance and exceptional smoothness. Because of this simplicity, PowerFlite has fewer parts and weighs less than any other automatic transmission currently in automobiles. A torque converter in combination with a two-speed planetary transmission, PowerFlite makes a single fully-automatic shift from starting gear to direct drive. This automatic shift takes place between 15 and 65 miles per hour, depending upon the driver's pressure on the accelerator. PowerFlite transmission is available on both the 1954 Fire Dome V-8 and Powermaster Six series De Sotos.
Creation Year: 1953
