This is a 1979, angled view of the front entrance of the Northwest Regional Library, featuring a small seating area for patrons. The Northwest Regional opened on July 25, 1978, replacing the former Germantown Branch. It was the third regional library in the Free Library system, providing the region with a larger collection than those of neighborhood branches.
It was renamed in 2002 for Joseph E. Coleman, a 20-year Philadelphia City Councilman, and its first African-American president. He worked for the development of the Northwest Regional Library.
The library serves the Northwest Philadelphia communities.
