Notes: This initial begins the Introit for the Mass of the Holy Trinity, "Benedicta sit sancta Trinitas atque indivisa unitas..." (Blessed by the Holy Trinity and indivisible unity). Representations of the Trinity could vary from those that present God as the father, the Holy Spirit as a dove, and Christ as the man Jesus, to images such as this one that present a more nuanced interpretation of this difficult concept. Here, the artist presents the Trinity as a man with three identical faces merged into one head, an image that emphasizes the unity glorified in this Introit.
