In this piece from Hiroshige's series "Famous Places in the Eastern Capital" the artist has utilized western techniques, like one point perspective, in order to acheive the perception of depth. Like many other pieces in the collection, Hiroshige plays on the western picture frame and places a border around the piece.This piece depicts the Yoshiwara, which was Japan's red light district at the time.
