The Whitman Branch of the Free Library opened on January 24, 1977. The neighborhood of Whitman and its library branch derive their names from the nearby Walt Whitman Bridge. This ca. 1977 interior view is of the adult reading area. On the wall is one of the four paintings of scenes of South Philadelphia, by well-known Philadelphia watercolorist Howard N. Watson.
Located on "Two Street,"—the home of the Mummers—the Whitman Branch serves the communities of Whitman and Pennsport.
