The Welsh Road Branch opened to the public on November 11, 1968. This ca. 1970 exterior view shows the finished front of the branch. The building was awarded the "Distinguished Building Award" by the Pennsylvania Society of Architects in 1970.
The library was one of the first in the country to be built in a shopping center, predicting that the unique location would stimulate circulation. It has fulfilled that hope, circulating in excess of 200,000 items per year.
Located just behind the Northeast Shopping Center at Welsh Road & Roosevelt Boulevard, the Welsh Road Branch serves the nearby communities of Northeast Philadelphia.
