The Welsh Road branch opened to the public on November 11, 1968. The library was one of the first in the country to be built in a shopping center. As seen in this 1981 image, the black-and-white marble mosaic, created by Edna Andrade and entitled "Space Cage,” dominates the entryway. It was commissioned for the 1% For Art initiative.
Located just behind the Northeast Shopping Center at Welsh Road & Roosevelt Boulevard, the Welsh Road Branch serves the nearby communities of Northeast Philadelphia.
